Travel information
Which Airport?
There are two major airports in the Netherlands close to Delft and Rotterdam with regular flights to/from other major airports:
- Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
- Rotterdam The Hague Airport
From Belgium and France, you may also travel by train (e.g. Thalys non-stop train is also a good and more sustainable option).
How to get to Delft from airport?
Both airports are well connected by train to Delft central station. “NS” is primarily responsible for providing the public transport facilities in the Netherlands.
- From the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol , catch one of the NS trains which takes approx. 45mins-1 hour to reach Delft.
- From the Rotterdam-The Hague Airport, it takes about 35-50 minutes via NS Train+Bus.
- Alternatively, airport taxis and Ubers are also available at the Arrivals terminals.
Alternatively, you may use taxi from/to the airport but keep in mind that it is better to reserve it two-way (e.g. https://taxidelft.nl/ ).
How to move around Delft or Nearby cities?
The public transportation is an efficient and reliable means to travel in the Netherlands. There are regular buses, trams and trains running within Delft as well as connecting Delft to nearby cities including the Hague, Rotterdam, etc.
- You can download the NS app for planning your journeys using the public transport:
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/ns/id370362301
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.ns.android.activity
Tickets for using the public transport can be brought either through the NS app (trains only), at train stations or inside a tram. Alternatively, you can buy an anonymous ov-chipkaart (travel card) from the airport or sales devices in stations, load it with credit and use it immediately.
NEW: If you have a debit card, you can also directly use it to check-in and check-out at the train stations, or on the bus.
- For buying tickets for the bus, the HTM app can be used:
iOS: https://apps.apple.com/nl/app/htm-ticket-app/id1216677355
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.justride.htm&hl=en&gl=US
Apart from that, cycling is the easiest way to explore the cities of Netherlands, thanks to its extensive bicycle-friendly infrastructure. There are a few companies that provide e-bike rental services in Delft, such as GO-sharing and Bondi.
Another popular site for trip planner with any kind of means is https://9292.nl/. You may also download the mobile app.
How to reach TU Delft from the Delft central station?
